Job description, responsibilities and duties
​Who are we and why should you apply:​The British Embassy in Slovakia is part of a worldwide UK government network representing official British political, economic and consular interests internationally. We are looking for a Senior Trade Adviser to join its Department for Business and Trade (DBT) team.The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) focuses on driving UK economic growth by tackling market access barriers, growing UK exports, and making the UK a brand of choice in Slovakia.The Senior Trade Adviser leads sector-specific business engagement activities into the Slovak market and is responsible to resolve barriers to business and market access issues for UK companies.What will you be expected to achieve:The main responsibilities of the role are as follows:
  • Contribute to the team's pipeline of commercial opportunities on a number of priority sectors for the Slovak market, through export promoting activities (introductions, visit programmes, events).
  • Support UK exporters to succeed in the Slovak market, providing business intelligence and market insight in the relevant fields.
  • Develop high-level contacts with key stakeholders in relevant Government institutions, trade associations and the business community, both in Slovakia and the UK.
  • Help to resolve barriers to business and market access issues for specific UK companies
  • Work across the Embassy teams to develop and deliver internal projects and campaigns in raising the UK profile.
  • Work closely with wider DBT Europe team and engaging with relevant colleagues, as required, across Europe posts.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Our ideal candidate will possess:
  • Fluency in English and Slovak at a minimum of C1 level according to CEFR*.
  • University degree within a related field of study (e.g. international relations, business, economics, etc).
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant working experience (e.g. Trade Promotion, Business Development, Exports, Investment etc.).
  • An understanding of the Slovak business environment.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and ability to develop and maintain contacts in both the public and private sectors.
  • Market research and good analytical ability
  • Excellent management and collaboration skills with the ability to deliver results
  • Positive, proactive attitude and ability to work in team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with and competence using the MS Office suite of IT applications (Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
It will be a plus:
  • Good knowledge and understanding of UK business environment.
  • Prior experience of working with or within the private sector, government, diplomatic mission or international organization.

This is a part-time, fixed term position for 18.25 hours per week, until 31 August 2025, with a probation period of 3 months.The monthly salary for this position is € 1,080.40 gross.The successful candidate/s will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.All applicants should have the right to live and work in Slovakia.
