Offer DescriptionWe are seeking motivated student researchers to conduct state-of-the-art research in recently established Laboratory for Advanced Materials (LAM) at Comenius University (CU) in Bratislava, Slovakia, with the following PhD dissertation theme:Chalcogenide perovskites synthesis. The focus of the project is on development of methods for chemical synthesis of thermally and chemically stable chalcogenide perovskite materials for application in photovoltaics and other optoelectronics and studies of their optical and electronic properties. The work will be performed at LAM in close collaboration with other prestigious local and international research institutions and members of the LAM team performing theoretical modeling and device applications development.RequirementsResearch Field Chemistry » Inorganic chemistry Education Level Master Degree or equivalentSkills/Qualifications
  • Completed university education (B.S., M.S., or equivalent) in chemistry or related fields
  • A strong background in chemical synthesis (preferably inorganic or materials)
  • Experience performing research in a chemistry or materials research laboratory
  • Strong verbal and written skills in English language
Specific Requirements
  • Experience with X-ray diffraction, solid-state UV-Vis absorption and/or photoluminescence spectroscopies is an advantage
  • Experience with high-temperature solid-state syntheses, colloidal nanocrystal syntheses or preparation of thin films is an advantage
  • Publication(s) in quality scientific journals is a big advantage

The research will be performed at newly established Laboratory for Advanced Materials (LAM), located in the recently constructed CU Science Park ( ). As a PhD student you will be a member of a multidisciplinary research team of PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and research staff, led by an internationally recognized researcher, ERA Chair, Dr. Milan Sykora. You will be able to learn about design and preparation of new materials, their chemical, structural and electronic characterization using variety of advanced characterization methods and development of applications in energy conversion and storage, optoelectronics, electronics or biotechnology. Your participation in this research will include opportunities to collaborate with other research teams from top Slovak research institutions as well as our collaborators from EU and USA. As part of your studies you will have an opportunity to present your research results at international conferences as well as participate in exchange research visits with our international collaborators.Compensation. You will be paid a monthly stipend in the amount of 1000-1200 EUR net, depending on your performance and experience, for period of 4 years. Thanks to a relatively low cost of living in Slovakia and availability of student housing, the stipend offers a financially comfortable student experience. After completion of your PhD you may continue your research at the LAM as a postdoctoral researcher, with the possibility to apply for prestigious fellowships (e.g., Marie-Curie Fellowship, Alexander von Humboldt fellowship), for international scientific stays at institutions and/or apply for positions requiring a PhD, such as senior researcher in chemical and materials science companies, an assistant professor position at one of the universities in Slovakia or abroad, etc.Selection processIf you are interested in the position, please contact Dr. Roman Bystricky via e-mail ( ).
