Funded traineeships for young graduates at the EU Delegation to the United Nations and other international organizations in GenevaThe deadline for submitting applications is 01/12/2024Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values represents EU interests and values in a multilateral context?We offer:Traineeships of 4 to 6 months within the following sections of the EU Delegation to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, starting in mid–February 2025 at the earliest, subject to budget availability.Trainees are fully integrated in the daily work of the sections, providing the trainee with the possibility of getting a good overview of the diplomatic work of the Delegation and in particular in the policy field covered by the section.
  • Human Rights Section:
Main tasks:Contributing to the drafting of briefingsAssist in the preparation of meetings, e.g. research and the drafting of statementsPreparing draft reports on EU/OHCHR/Human Rights-related meetings, conferences and eventsOverall analysis of Human Rights policies in various countries General logistics supportParticipation in the Human Rights Council and Universal Periodic Review meetings as well as various working groups
  • Humanitarian and Migration Section:
Main tasks:Provide an active input to the EU Delegation’s tasks of representation and EU coordination in the area of humanitarian affairs, refugees and/or migrationContribute to the interaction between national diplomatic and administrative system(s) and the EU in the context of EU coordination with EU Member States and in particular close cooperation within EU Team (EU Delegation + EU Council presidency)Take part to meetings and ensure timely and quality reporting. When needed draft notes/briefings on humanitarian affairs, refugees and/or migration or on issues of a more general natureContribute to and take part in the organization of meetings and events at the EU DelegationAssist in the organisation of missions from EU Headquarters to Geneva
  • Economic Affairs, Development, Environment and Digital Section:
Main tasks:Assist the Head of Section and Section colleagues in their daily work in relation to the UN. agencies and bodies under their purview - UNECE, ITU, UNCTAD, WIPO, UNEP, WMO - as well as any other entity as might prove necessary, e.g. WEF, ITC, etc.Assist in the preparation of meetings, e.g. research and the drafting of statementsDraft reports following meetings and conferences and summarizing newly issued reportsAssist in the preparation of official visitsGeneral logistics support
  • Labour and Social Affairs Section:
Main tasks:Prepare background notes, analytical reports, summary of relevant ILO (and if relevant other UN agencies) meetings, events, seminars etc. and EU/IMEC coordination meetingsProvide administrative support to the ILO TeamSupport the team in drafting reports, organising meetings, researching and analysing specific policy topics, analysing policy on topical issues relating to the EU/ILOLiaise and communicate with EU member States as part of the Governing Body preparations, the International Labour Conference and general EU coordination issuesAssist the Head of Section and section-colleagues in covering EU-activities in ILOAttend meetings and events organised at the United Nations, EU Delegation, EU Member States, UN Agencies, NGOs, academia or think-tanksAssist in the relevant (High Level and regular) meetings of ILO and overall communication with EUMS.Any other task assigned by team colleagues
  • Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Section:
Main tasks:Assist the Head of Section and Section colleagues in their daily work in relation to UN and other multilateral meetings in the area of disarmamentAssist in the preparation of meetingsDrafting reports following meetings and conferencesAssist in the preparation of official visitsGeneral logistics support to the team
  • Health Section:
Main tasks:Assist the section-colleagues in covering EU-activities in WHOAttend meetings and events organised at the United Nations, EU Delegation, EU Member States, UN Agencies, NGOs, academia or think tanks. Assist in the preparation of meetings, e.g. research and the drafting of statementsPrepare background notes, analytical reports, summary of documents of relevant UN and EU meetings, events, seminars etc.Assist in the relevant (High Level and regular) meetings of WHO and other health-related bodies, overall communication with EUMS, including through email and AgoraSupport the team in drafting reports, organising meetings, researching and analysing specific policy topics, analysing policyAny other task assigned by the team colleagues
  • Communication Section:
Support the social media work of the Delegation, including drafting social media postsProducing social media videos, photos and visualsDevelop new social media campaignsDrafting news stories for the Delegation’s websiteProvide support in the organisation of events, conferences and campaignsAttend conferences/meetings and drafting reportsOther tasks assigned by the team colleaguesWe look for:Qualifications or special requirements:
  • Knowledge of the European Union and of the United Nations
  • Excellent drafting skills in English, knowledge of French would be a strong advantage
  • Understanding and previous internships in the specific area to which the candidate applies are considered an asset

As an indication, 2024 . These amounts may be revised for traineeships starting in 2025. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.Citizens from EU Member states:
  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
