Office of the International Organization of Migration (IOM) in the Slovak Republic is seeking for a candidate for the position of Legal Advisor - Project Assistant. Under the general supervision of the Head of Office and direct supervision of the Head of the Labour Migration Unit the successful candidate will be responsible for provision of comprehensive legal advice to UK Nationals (UKN) to raise awareness, share information on residency requirements and provide direct support to at-risk individuals to complete their applications to register/apply for residence through outreach, awareness raising and provision of legal advice.About the position:Position Title: Legal Advisor - Project AssistantDuty Station: Grösslingová 35, Bratislava, Slovak Republic / Poštová 1, 040 01 Košice, Slovak RepublicClassification: General Staff GV, UN Salary Scale, 745 EUR base salary per month, 690 EUR net salary per month, salary is tax exemptedStart Date: May 2020Contract type: part-time - 20 hours per week with possibility of full time contract from July 2020Type of Appointment: Special short term graded contractCore functions / Responsibilities:Under the supervision of the Head of the Labour Migration Unit and overall guidance of the Head of Office (HoO), the successful candidate will be responsible for assistance in the implementation of all project/s activities.Specifically, s/he will: * Provide comprehensive legal counselling to clients, personally, via email or telephone;
  • Collect and regularly update relevant data and legal documents in a database of information related to legal and labour integration of migrants;
  • Prepare records on individual cases, performs case management and maintain client's folders;
  • Elaborate legal analyses and statements to relevant laws and other legal documents;
  • Coordination and development of outreach services in all regions of Slovakia including preparation of information sessions and provision of immigration advice to UKN;
  • Develop and organize outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances and other communication opportunities;
  • Maintain cooperation with local and regional institutions and/or contacts with migrant communities, relevant governmental, non-governmental entities as well as other international organisations and local NGOs on project activities;
  • Develop information materials and other supporting documents for target groups;
  • Monitor and update the website, including insertion of updates, communication with website service provider;
  • Continuously process the reports from outreach activities and participate in preparation of monitoring reports as appropriate;
  • Prepare visibility materials in form of presentations, photos, articles, short films or other such as required;
  • Prepare reports, briefings, background information, narratives and statistical analysis as necessary and required;
  • Gather and archive data, information and supporting documentation necessary for the project implementation;
  • Actively participate in the meetings of the project team, as well as attend official meetings and appointments if needed;
  • Act as interpreter/translator (Slovak-English, English-Slovak);
  • Perform general office maintenance tasks including correspondence, market surveys; logistics, and procurement of technical equipment and office supplies.
  • Communicate with the national and international stakeholders;
  • Communicate with external partners and relevant actors on related legal and social issues;
  • Participate on other project-related activities, as needed;
  • Assist in evaluation and reviewing of the project progress, including financial monitoring of the relevant budget expenditures in order to ensure effective planning of project activities;
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic and final reports to the donor, including filing and preparation of supporting documentation;
  • Perform other duties assigned by the HoO.

Required qualifications, experience and skills:
  • Master’s degree in Law;
  • Minimum three years of legal experience or relevant legal counselling;
  • Excellent orientation in social, labour and migration law of the Slovak Republic and human rights law;
  • Experience working with migrants, migration management, and international migration issues - an advantage;
  • Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills with a commitment to provide respectful, culturally-competent communication, including an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences; basic knowledge of diverse cultures and environments; and the skills to adapt communication skills to fit cultural context.
  • Good communication, negotiation, analytical and organisation skills;
  • Personal commitment, efficiency and drive for results;
  • Experience in developing and implementing project activities related to migration issues- an advantage;
  • Experience in working with representatives of governmental institutions, civil society and the private sector;
  • Knowledge of migration and integration issues;
  • Language skills: Excellent command of English, Slovak - native speaker;
