Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Slovak Republic is seeking for a candidate for the position of Project Assistant for Legal Counselling I. Under the general supervision of the Head of Office (HoO) and direct supervision of the Head of the Labour Migration Unit/IOM Migration Information Centre Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for legal services of the IOM Migration Information Centre in Bratislava to support integration of migrants in Slovakia.The Centre provides legal advice and social services to migrants in order to enable their better integration into Slovak society and the labour market. For more information about the activities of the IOM MIC please visit .About the position:Position Title: Project Assistant for Legal Counselling I.Duty Station: Grösslingová 35, Bratislava, Slovak RepublicClassification: General Staff GV, UN Salary Scale, 1,490 EUR base salary per month, 1,307 EUR net salary per month, salary is tax exemptedStart Date: 1 June 2020Contract type: Full-timeType of Appointment: Fixed term, one year with possibility of extensionCore functions / Responsibilities:Under the supervision of the Head of the Labour Migration Unit and overall guidance of the Head of Office (HoO), the successful candidate will be responsible for assistance in the implementation of all project/s activities.Specifically, s/he will:
  • Coordinate implementation of legal counselling and provision of legal aid to migrants in MIC Bratislava through personal consultations, information helpline and electronic communication;
  • Liaison with local governmental non-governmental counterparts as well as international stakeholders;
  • Coordinate updates of relevant data and legal documents in a database of information related to legal and labour integration of migrants including review and drafting of legislative, regulatory or policy mechanisms;
  • Coordinate and oversight development of legal aid services in all regions of Slovakia including preparation of information sessions, workshops and other communication opportunities ;
  • Oversights case management on individual cases and maintain client's folders;
  • Elaborate legal analyses and statements to relevant laws and other legal documents;
  • Coordinate development of information materials and other supporting documents for target groups;
  • Monitor and update the website, including insertion of updates, communication with website service provider;
  • Prepare reports, briefings, background information, narratives and statistical analysis as necessary and required;
  • Actively participate in the meetings of the project team, as well as attend official meetings and appointments if needed;
  • Act as interpreter/translator (Slovak-English, English-Slovak);
  • Perform general office maintenance tasks including correspondence, market surveys; logistics, and procurement of technical equipment and office supplies.
  • Participate on other project-related activities, as needed;
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic and final reports to the donor, including filing and preparation of supporting documentation;
  • Perform other duties assigned by the HoO.

Other information:
  • IOM does not contribute to Slovak national security scheme and National health system for its employees.

Required qualifications, experience and skills:
  • Master’s degree in Law;
  • Minimum three years of legal experience or relevant legal counselling;
  • Excellent orientation in social, labour and migration law of the Slovak Republic and human rights law;
  • Experience working with migrants, migration management, and international migration issues - an advantage;
  • Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills with a commitment to provide respectful, culturally-competent communication, including an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences; basic knowledge of diverse cultures and environments; and the skills to adapt communication skills to fit cultural context.
  • Good communication, negotiation, analytical and organisation skills;
  • Personal commitment, efficiency and drive for results;
  • Experience in developing and implementing project activities related to migration issues- an advantage;
  • Experience in working with representatives of governmental institutions, civil society and the private sector;
  • Knowledge of migration and integration issues;
  • Language skills: Excellent command of English, Slovak - native speaker;
